New year should be the focus. having your kid write down their goals for the new year and what goals the family has is a new start!
Be reasonable on letting write what they want and guide them to a better solution if you find it not fitting, (i want 10 X boxes)..
perhaps you could say ok what chores can you take on to get money to buy one OR how much of your allowance you get (that they get monthly from the state) wlll you have to save to get that Xbox? teaching them financial and personal responsibility!
